So, you wanna start a group hey?
First off, what do you want to do? Every person, town and group is unique but our struggles are often universal – Maybe you want to learn how to grow food, perhaps a corporation is tearing up your local woodland (and you want to oppose it) or you simply want to discuss a particular subject with strangers and build new communities.
To get you started, here are just a few ideas of things of we’ve organised:
- Start a Workshop on consensus decision making
- Host a Skillshare about basic electronics
- Run a Discussion on polyamory or open relationships
- Call a Protest against them god damn frackers!
- Feminist self-defence training
- How to make compost
- Co-operatives and collective living
- Crash course on vegan cookery
- Bicycle maintainence 101
- Transformative justice
- Food for free: urban foraging
- [..your idea here!]
RebelNet groups should be:
- Safe, inclusive spaces
- Completely free of charge (unless you’re covering costs or fundraising)
- Guided by the principles of mutual aid, horizontality and direct action (For more details, read our zine or click here)
So you’ve got an idea or skill you want to learn (or share). What’s next?
- Firstly, use the telegram group or drop us a message to see if there is a group already in your area – We show up in the most un-expected places – if not, start one up!
- Set the date, time and secure a location – Your subject may dictate your location, you don’t want a cob building workshop in a cafe now do you?
- Spread the word – Tell everyone you know, set up an event on the dreaded social media, print your own flyers*, shout it from the rooftops.
*You can use our flyer template if you dont want to make your own
How can I connect with RebelNet groups & find the others?
Word spreads quickly, but if you want to link with other rebels in the network, join our telegram group. It’s a free encrypted messenger app and you can join both from a smart phone or laptop
You can also network with others and start new communities. Who knows, maybe a fellow rebel is just next door!
